Watch the video above (as if you need to be told). It’s awesome. Wicked Strong, the aptly named three-year-old colt based out of Continental Farms in Beverley, ran his race like you dream about. Starting slowly, and creeping up until the homestretch. Then, like Seabiscuit, Wicked Strong made his move with style. “Social Inclusion” must have been fairly upset, leading for most of the race, only to get blown away over the final quarter mile. Then again, how often does that happen in horse racing? Why do they ever go to the front early?

And yes, Wicked Strong will be running in the Kentucky Derby (set for May 3rd). Of course, the horse was named in response to the “Boston Strong” campaign that emerged from the marathon tragedy. Originally, he was supposed to be named Boston Strong, but another stable had already claimed that name. Wicked Strong works just as well.

The race victory shown in the video was from Wood Memorial last weekend, as the thunderous win ensured $590,000 in prize money. An excellent development from the horse’s name is that one percent of all of his winnings go to the One Fund (so that’s $5,900).

Great news. Oh, and in case you were wondering, the prize for winning the Derby is over a million dollars (last year it was 1.24 million). $12,400 would be a solid One Fund contribution.
