Despite how nasty it looks (and feels) outside, you’ll be glad to know that summer is most definitely on its way. And coinciding with the promise of warmer temps comes tomorrow’s return of everyone’s favorite Boston swans.

Fittingly named Romeo and Juliet, the swans are “a sure sign that summer is on the way,” as noted by the Associated Press in the Boston Herald. On Wednesday, April 30, the two swans will once again be returning to the Public Garden’s lagoon. In addition, the garden’s Swan Boats reopened earlier this month – setting the scene for summer’s return.

During the long and miserable winter months, the two swans spent their time in the spa-like environment of Franklin Park Zoo (must be nice). The swan couple dubbed Romeo and Juliet, are actually two female swans named after their male and female predecessors, according to Boston Magazine. The article notes that the park’s current swans have been returning to the Public Garden since 2003.

According to the AP report, the event tomorrow will feature “a special ceremony that includes a parade, a brass band, face painting and other activities for children, including a reading of ‘Make Way for Ducklings.’” Mayor Marty Walsh is planning to attend the celebration along with Interim Boston Parks Commissioner Chris Cook.

Just one more reason to look forward to warmer months (that can’t come soon enough)!
