[UPDATE]: According to the Boston Globe, two firefighters suffered minor injuries but neither was taken to the hospital. The roof partially collapsed in multiple spaces. The investigation is still ongoing.

It’s being reported that there’s a three-alarm fire at Suffolk Downs in East Boston. The fire appears to be blazing in close proximity to the stables, though reports indicate that it may have ignited in the kitchen. It’s been confirmed that all people and horses in danger have been evacuated.

As was the case with the tragic 9-alarm blaze that tore through Boston’s Back Bay, firefighters are battling heavy wind gusts that often times reignites the fire. As noted by NECN, gusts reached up to 17 mph.

According to WCVB, the fire broke out just prior 5:30 p.m. The Revere Journal has tweeted that reinforcements from the Everett and Malden fire departments are on their way to the scene.

Malden Patch writes that “Firefighters were ordered to stay outside the structure and attack the flames from a safe distance” and that all horses have been evacuated from the building.

Suffolk Downs was set to kick off racing season on Saturday, May 3. It posted on its website that “track officials expressed concern that this may be the last call for racing at the 79-year-old track pending the outcome of the award later this year of gaming licenses in Massachusetts.”

This is a developing story. Stay tuned to BostInno for more details. We’ll be sure to keep you updated as more information continues to be made publicly available.
