When Anna Wintour tells you to come to the Met Gala wearing “White Tie and Decorations,” you listen. But first? You figure out what on earth that means. Here, we break it down for men.

The New York Times gives the best visual: “[The Monopoly] board’s icon, Uncle Milburn Pennybags.” Emily Post breaks it down further, kindly asking you to grab your black tailcoat, matching trousers, wing-collared piqué shirt, white vest, bow tie, gloves, black patent shoes, and – if you can find it – maybe your top hat. (You have all that, right?)
White tie is a step above black tie. Which means, no, we don’t have all that, so expect a whole lot of bespoke menswear this year. “LANVIN, for one, is said to be making the suit for 6-foot, 11-inch New York Knick Amar’e Stoudemire,” WWD reveals.
But what about the “decorations,” you ask? According to one Vogue editor, looks like cake toppers and streamers won’t cut it, but medals will suffice. (Phew, we all have medals!)
Regardless, we eagerly await Monday.
