Alright Boston, with the weather finally looking up and the sunshine beaming down on the city it might be time to start thinking about the newest options popping up in the frozen food section that won’t break your healthy living lifestyle. Lucky for us locals, there is a new sweet treat on the market that was developed right in our backyard!

Stonyfield, the world’s leading organic yogurt maker, partnered with Cambridge, MA-based Wiki Foods Inc., to launch a first-of-its-kind, organic frozen yogurt dessert. The product, called Stonyfield Frozen Yogurt Pearls, are now available for purchase at select Whole Foods Markets in the Boston-area only.

According to the release, “Stonyfield Frozen Yogurt Pearls are scoops of Stonyfield organic frozen yogurt enveloped in all natural, edible, tasty skins (much like the skin of a grape). Because of this skin, the frozen yogurt takes longer to melt and can be transported without a mess.” An innovative concept, especially with beach season right around the corner.

And if you’re fearful of dietary derailment as you’re noshing on these poppable pearls, don’t be. While they are a dessert and should still be eaten in moderation, they are made with fruit and other organic-certified ingredients. Stonyfield’s blog states about their product, “A delectable hand-crafted pearl of yogurt with fewer than 30 calories, and all the goodness of the Stonyfield organic products you know and love.”

A large perk of these small pearls is their minimal packaging. This innovative grab-and-go idea for a frozen product came from the collaboration of Stonyfield CEO Gary Hirshberg and Cambridge-based company, Wiki Foods Inc. Hirshberg’s mission has always been to create a yogurt that consumers can eat and then eat the cup afterwards. Yogurt Pearls will now expand the ways in which (and where) we can enjoy our favorite organic dessert while cutting waste.

Stonyfield Frozen Yogurt Pearls are currently (and exclusively) available at the following Whole Foods Markets: Fresh Pond (Cambridge), Charles River Place in Boston, River Street and the new Lynnfield store.
