What could possibly scream “spring” more than Boston’s very own Rose Kennedy Greenway? Fortunately for us, Providence chefs Matt and Kate Jennings, are now planning to open a new restaurant in the Radian building overlooking the unique outdoor space. According to a release, the chefs of the acclaimed Providence bistro, Farmstead Inc., “will open Townsman restaurant in late 2014.”

The owners and chefs are closing their popular, farm-driven restaurant in Providence so that they can return to their hometown of Boston to open “a new restaurant in the city where they grew up, met and began their culinary careers,” notes the release.

Townsman will open in Boston’s new Radian building at 120 Kingston Street in Downtown Boston. Perfect for those looking to wine and dine right on the Greenway.

The Jennings plan to close the Farmstead’s storefront on June 1. “When Kate and I moved to Rhode Island and opened Farmstead, we knew that we would one day return home to raise our children near our family and friends in Boston,” Matt Jennings stated in a release. “We are forever indebted to all of our loyal guests who helped us build Farmstead into the beloved destination it has become for so many.”

Now to the important part – why should you care? We should note that chef Matt Jennings has been recognized numerous times by the James Beard Foundation. Known as the “Prince of Pork,” Matt Jennings has taken home three consecutive wins at the national culinary competition Cochon 555. He’s also graced the front page of The New York Times’ Dining section, and has been featured in The Wall Street Journal, Esquire, Food & Wine, Martha Stewart Living, Rhode Island Monthly and more.

Needless to say – this restaurant coming to Boston is kind of a big deal.

We’re looking forward to not only seeing what Townsman has offer but also to welcoming the Jennings home to Boston.
