Memorial Day weekend is finally here folks! And that means it’s time to start planning future summer vacations. But before you do, you should know that you already live in one of the “hottest” U.S. travel destinations. At least, according to The American Public Transportation Association.

Today, the APTA released their annual “Travel Like a Local” Summer Travel Survey, which reported the 14 hottest urban travel destinations for 2014. Boston made the list, coming in at number 9. Of course, this is both good and bad for residents  – as it means we not only get the perks of living in one of the most vibrant and interesting cities but we also have to deal with all of the tourists.

Let’s take a look at the other cities that made the top 14 “hottest” travel destinations list.

1.      New York

2.      Orlando

3.      Miami

4.      Washington D.C.

5.      San Diego

6.      Dallas

7.      Chicago

8.      Philadelphia

9.    Boston

10.  San Francisco

11.  Las Vegas

12.  Los Angeles

13.  St. Louis

14.  Seattle

15.  Atlanta

One thing that most of these cities have in common is a decent public transportation system for tourists and residents, alike. The study looked at how visitors plan to utilize public transportation in U.S. cities. It concluded that 67 percent of millennials and adults plan to use “public transportation during their trip to a major U.S. city or metropolitan area this summer,” states the release.

Thank god for the T (sort of). As much as we take it for granted, at least we have a somewhat efficient way of getting around our city – and so do the tourists.

Happy summer vacationing, folks!
