The Downtown Crossing area is abuzz with construction, openings and more, and the newest addition to the area points toward the changes coming to the worn-down, but revitalizing, facade of DTX.

According to the Boston Herald, Gap Inc. is working towards opening an outlet store on Washington Street in the downtown neighborhood, in the space where the F.Y.E. music and video store once stood. The Gap is looking to enter the area at the right time – as Millenium Partners continue their work on the $630 million project at the Filene’s construction site, the once-fading area is again attracting new retailers and companies.

The most recent notable acquisition for the area was the news that Primark, a successful and lucrative (yet still affordable) department store in the UK would be opening in the space where Filene’s once stood. That, in addition to Millenium Tower, which will house luxury condos and apartments, a forthcoming Roche Bros. supermarket, as well as the latest Legal Sea Foods outpost, Legal Crossing, promises a new future for Downtown Crossing as a shopping, living and dining destination.

The new Gap location will attract shoppers, and since it’s an outlet store, the price points will fall in line with those of the upcoming Primark, as well as the existing DSW, H&M, Marshall’s and TJ Maxx stores in the strip.
