Some people consider Boston’s chances of hosting the 2024 Summer Olympic Games as nothing more than a pipe dream. The latest developments, however, prove that Boston may actually capture the bid. In the wise words of Lloyd Christmas, “So you’re telling me there’s a chance!”

According to the Boston Globe, Boston is on the U.S. Olympic Committee’s “short list” of prospective metro host cities. The Globe‘s source wished to remain under the cloak of anonymity.

Given that the actual host city won’t be designated for another three years, it’s important to realize that this is just another minor step in the process. That being said, those who think Boston is capable of  being the venue for the most prestigious athletic spectacle on Earth can continue to remain optimistic.

Earlier this week, Committee members – some of whom are locals – set up shop at MIT to continue hammering out the details.

An official announcement, continues the Globe, may come later this afternoon. Stay tuned.

Boston’s U.S. competitors include Dallas, Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Diego and Washington D.C.; it’s unclear at this point which cities joined Boston on the short list.

Some, like BostInno’s own Alex Reimer, don’t want the games anywhere near Boston. I mean, let’s face it, the city isn’t exactly ripe with capable infrastructure; adequate housing for the influx of athletes, officials and tourists; and regulation sporting venues.

Shall we build, then? Sure. Where?

Fret not, we still have time to iron out all the kinks. Check back with BostInno for more updates on the Olympic bidding process as we’ll be sure to keep you informed as more information continues to be made available.
