After much anticipation, the newest addition to Allston’s Cambridge Street is now up and running. Lulu’s, the new American bar and restaurant, opened its doors last night, Sunday, at 5 p.m., just under a month after the Roxy’s Grilled Cheese brick and mortar opened up down the street.

While you can’t deny that this particular stretch of real estate in the Allston neighborhood is particularly hot – it’s home to not only Roxy’s and Lulu’s, but Deep Ellum, Lone Star, FoMu, Root and more – you still may turn your nose up at making the trek down the B line to get to the restaurant. Before you chalk it up as a loss, however, just check out some highlights from the brand new menu; they’ll have you singing a different tune.

Curated by Nashville-born Chef Sarah Wade, the menu mixes comfort food with trendy add-ons for innovative dishes at unpretentious prices. The options are split into several categories – Bites, Shares, Salads, Soups, Sandwiches, Mains and Afters – and it might be impossible to squeeze everything you want to try into one trip (so you’ll likely be heading back more than once). Highlights include Mexican Cheetos ($3), jumbo sized Allston Wings ($9), a Bad Ass Burger ($15) topped with braised shortribs, a runny egg and beer cheese soup, and Wild Game Frito Chili Pie ($10), made with local cheddar, Fritos and sour cream. For dessert, don’t forget the Caramel Monkey Bread, topped with cream cheese sauce. Hungry yet? Check out the full menu here.

To drink, Lulu’s is for beer lovers. With 50 beers and ciders on tap, the options are divided by category: Hop Focused Brews, Belgian/Belgian-Style and Wheat Brews, Ales, Lagers, Ciders and ‘Oh You Fancy,’ where the rarer brews live. Spend some time looking these beers over; there’s plenty to choose from. To get an idea, check out this video of their draft lineup below, via Facebook:

They’ve also got a full liquor license and will be serving cocktails and wine.

The new restaurant has been buzzed about for a few months now as it neared its finishing touches, and judging from photos, it looks like they celebrated a successful opening night. The hours for Lulu’s Allston, located at 421 Cambridge Street, are Monday through Friday, 11:30 a.m. to 1 a.m., and Saturday and Sunday from 10:30 a.m. to 1 a.m. (Stay tuned for a brunch menu!)
