Ten years ago the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center opened its doors in what would later become the city’s trailblazing Innovation District. To celebrate its tenth birthday, the longevity its enjoyed and everything the Innovation District stands for, the Massachusetts Convention Center Authority will be using the BCEC to display over 100 artists across six different exhibits.

The MCCA is already revamping public space around the BCEC to entice more community engagement, so it comes as no surprise that they’re looking to get into the art game. The works put on display will include digital, paint, photography, sculpture, dance, music and mixed-media collage.

Taking place on Thursday from 5:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., the event is part of the MCCA’s Community Art Project which aims to beautify Boston by providing a venue for various artists and programs so that they can continue to innovate.

Entertainment at the event will be in the form of DJ Jeff Mission, dancers envisioned and curated by Basil El Halwagy and Akili Jamal Haynes and ensemble, though the real fun will be courtesy of the original pieces of art.

Perhaps the most fitting exhibit for the Innovation District is Art on the Marquee – a rotating, 80-foot tall multi-screen LED media tower outside of the BCEC. Ultimately, though, each display is sure to pique the collective creativity and imaginations of the spectators who make their way over to the Seaport.
