This weekend just got a whole lot better for Boston’s beer enthusiasts. The new microbrewery, Aeronaut Brewing Company, officially opens today in Somerville’s Union Square with a sold-out Grand Opening celebration.

Back in March, we reported on the brewing venture started by four local graduate students. The local founders, who have now made Aeronaut Brewing Company a reality, will welcome guests today with plenty of tours, pours, “New York jazz bands, Somerville funk and activist honk,” according to EventBrite.

The beer company describes itself as:

“…  a craft brewery and urban farmhouse under one roof. Here, our inspired team of brewers and scientists collaborate with New England farmers and food makers to drive the invention of craft beers and spur a renaissance of local victuals and industrial revitalization.”

There will also be eight beers on 18 draught lines available for tasting. Eater Boston reports that the “debut roster of beers includes Armadillo, an American IPA; Lagerfeuer, a Rauchbier; and more.” But unless you have tickets to today’s grand opening, you’ll have to wait to try these brews another time.

Eater Boston also notes that Aeronaut will be “Somerville’s first brewery since the 19th century.” And this only the beginning for Somerville’s beer future. The town will also soon welcome Slumbrew’s first taproom and brewery to the area. The craft beer company, which has actually been brewing their beers out of Mercury Brewing Company in Ipswich, noted in a release that they hoped to open the brewery this year.

In the meantime, we recommend checking out Aeronaut Brewing Company as well. The brewery will also be featured in Mark Wahlberg’s new reality series The Big Brew Theory on A&E. So far, the brewery’s hours of operation and tasting hours haven’t been made available. If you go, Aeronaut Brewing Company is located at 14 Tyler Street in Somerville.
