I absolutely love the Rose Kennedy Greenway. It’s rife with artistic innovations and engaging items that make it one of the most creative public spaces in the nation. That’s just my humble opinion, of course, but it’s hard to deny the imagination and originality that continues to prosper along that stretch of green. Perhaps one of the few things that could help it grasp the next rung in the ladder of excellence is less vehicular noise.

Don’t worry, though, there’s a plan in the works.

The Boston Redevelopment Authority Board announced on Monday that it has approved the initiation of the Greenway Ramp Parcel Study. The study will examine any feasible means of covering the on and off ramps slicing through the Greenway leading to the Tip O’Neill tunnel underground.

As per Big Dig stipulations, it was required that all access ramps be covered in some form, though it’s ambiguous as to what form these coverings will take. A BRA spokesperson told BostInno that possibilities abound, whether it’s some kind of landscaping, built structure or something we haven’t yet thought of.

Let the innovating begin.

The specific areas include parcel 6, directly in front of Government Center Garage and the Haymarket MBTA station; 12, in front of the Dock Square Garage; and 18, in front of International Place.

The BRA will be teaming up with MassDOT, which owns the parcels, to conduct the study though funding will come courtesy of the former.

To gather community input and inject transparency into the process, the BRA has scheduled a public meeting to take place on Thursday, June 26, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. This is the first public meeting in which Bostonians can recommend ideas with more subsequent meetings to ensue.
