On any given Saturday or Sunday morning in Allston, the line to order breakfast at Bagel Rising on Commonwealth Ave. often stretches out the door. With original bagel sandwiches like the Tequila Sunrise (made with scrambled eggs, meat, jalapeńo cream cheese, tomato and onion), the tiny bagel spot, first opened in 1996 according to their website, is a popular neighborhood go-to. However, that era will soon come to an end, as Bagel Rising will be replaced by Pavement as soon as this summer.

Eater Boston reports that Bagel Rising is owned by Pavement Coffeehouse owner Lawrence Margulies, who also owned four Espresso Royale Caffes in the area. Bagel Rising was the last standing outpost that wasn’t a Pavement, as Margulies has now turned all Espresso Royales into Pavements, including a location on Commonwealth Ave. on BU campus, not far from Bagel Rising.

Along with Bagel Rising transforming into a Pavement, the space will be getting a major makeover, according to Eater, which could happen this August. It’s not clear yet how much the restaurant’s menu will change, but let’s hope we can hold onto our Jackson Crooks, made with bacon, tomato and cream cheese.

In addition to the forthcoming location on Commonwealth Ave., another Pavement is on its way to 1330 Boylston Street in Fenway.
