In case you didn’t read BostInno this morning (what am I saying, of course you did), tonight marks the 31st J.P. Morgan Corporate Challenge, a 3.5-mile jaunt around Boston’s Back Bay. Given that the race kicks off at 7:15 p.m., the midst of rush hour, and includes over 12,000 runners from more than 600 companies, we want to help you out with a traffic advisory.

On Tuesday, the Boston Transportation Department gave notice that street closures for the race will begin at 6:45 p.m. and last until 8:10 p.m. If you plan on coming into the city this evening, it’s encouraged that you take the MBTA. Sorry.

Naturally, those who ended up driving to work today, along with cyclists and pedestrians, are asked to keep their sure-to-ensue road rage to a minimum.

Though the streets along the race route will be closing just prior to the sounding of the gun, parking restrictions are already in place. In fact, “Tow Zone No Stopping Tuesday 2 PM to 8 PM” temporary restrictions have already been enacted for the following:

  • Beacon Street – South side from Charles Street to opposite #71, North side westerly from Charles Street to River Street, and North side from Charles Street to a point 85’ easterly
  • Boylston Street – South side from Charles Street to Tremont Street
  • Charles Street South – West side from Park Plaza to Boylston Street
  • Charles Street – West side from Boylston Street across Beacon Street to Chestnut Street, and East side from Beacon Street to Branch Street
  • Commonwealth Avenue – North side, North roadway, from Arlington Street to approximately 100’ westerly ending at #3

Runners will be gathering on Boston Common along Charles Street. They’ll then proceed left onto Beacon Street, take another left onto Arlington Street and then bang a right onto Commonwealth Ave (outbound). Once runners reach Kenmore Square, they’ll head back up Commonwealth by way of the Massachusetts Avenue overpass, head right on Arlington, left on Boylston, and finish up back on Charles.

If that’s too difficult for you to navigate, best take Caroline’s advice and “pull up Google Maps and start rerouting your ride home.”
