Okay, I admit it. I watch The Bachelor (and The Bachelorette). And I’m not the only one. Every Tuesday morning in the Rue offices, it’s always the topic of conversation: What was Andi wearing? Is he [insert name] there for the right reasons? Was it really the “most dramatic rose ceremony ever”? Now that we’ve safely put Juan “It’s okay” Pablo behind us, we can once again focus on someone who really deserves to find love and can look great doing it.

Andi Dorfman has definitely mastered the casual look, from her chic black and white ensemble while on a miming group date in France to her skinny white jeans, sandals, and tunic for the lie-detector test in Italy.  But it’s her more glamorous looks that really shine. Whether in a long, shimmery gown or a sexy cocktail dress, she gets it right every single time.

To pull off an Andi-inspired look, I spoke with Rue La La Dress Buyer (and fellow Bachelor fan) Ilana S. Here, she gives us her tips for the summer wedding season, chic cocktail parties, and even black-tie events:

  1. Let the dress be the center of attention. For an evening event, don’t shy away from serious sparkle. We typically see Andi in head-to-toe sequins or a heavily bejeweled gown. Just be sure to let the dress shine by keeping your jewelry, hair, and makeup simple.
  2. Don’t be afraid of going long. You can wear a pretty patio dress during the day or at night. Simply choose the right fabrication and color for the occasion. Think a long, printed chiffon dress for daytime soirees and a richly colored sequin gown for evening events.
  3. A big trend right now is evening separates. Try wearing a simple top paired with jacquard ball-gown skirt or a sparkly top with a long, full skirt. Mix and match to see what combinations work best for you – just remember to incorporate one dressier item, like a satin ball skirt or embellished long-sleeve top for night events.
  4. Find the perfect length. It’s important that a long dress just skims the ground (you should see only a peek of shoe). Go to a tailor and have it taken up if need be. And remember, you don’t have to wear heels with a long dress if it’s the right length. Flat jeweled sandals and metallic strappy flats work well, too.
