A new season means a new color palette. So, we asked Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute, for some expert advice. Here, she gives us a rundown of summer’s must-have hues and color combos.

  1. Greys have been big the past few seasons. Opt for shades like Paloma – over black – for your go-to neutral this summer and fall.
  2. This season calls for a little excitement. Wear two equally bold hues, like Cayenne and Orange Freesia, for an unexpected pairing reminiscent of summer’s bright blooms.
  3. Radiant Orchid – Pantone’s 2014 Color of the Year – is more versatile than people think. Try it in small doses first with accessories or makeup, as it’s a very skin-enhancing color.
