Damn it, Arthur. What’s your problem? Rolling into Boston and threatening us all with lousy weather when all we want to do is celebrate the lasting union of Lady Liberty and Uncle Sam. Tsk tsk tsk. Lucky for you, and for all of us, Mayor Marty Walsh is quick on his toes and has aptly adapted to the occasion.

On Thursday Mayor Walsh’s office announced that the imminent inclement weather has resulted in a few itinerary and location changes for the City of Boston’s Independence Day Celebration. In fact, “The flag raising and Independence Day Parade are cancelled, and all other planned Independence Day programming will be held at Faneuil Hall,” the advisory notes.

Things will still be kicking off tomorrow at 10:00 a.m., though you can come as early at 9:00 a.m., and Mayor Walsh will be leading the charge with a rousing speech sure to entice a wave of patriotism this side of the Boston Tea Party.

Other engaging items include Francisco Urena, Commissioner of Veteran’s Services, U.S. Marine Corps (Ret.) reciting the pledge of Allegiance; Captain Commanding Gerard C. McCarthy dropping some knowledge about the Declaration of Independence; hot gossip about the Granary Burial Grounds wherein lies revolutionaries like Peter Faneuil, Samuel Adams, John Hancock, and Robert Treat Paine; and musical performances by Dana Whiteside and Zarba Military Band.

The mayor’s office notes further that, in keeping with tradition, the Independence Day oration has been held at Faneuil Hall since 1783.

Have at it, ya crazy Americans.
