With AccelGolf the game of golf is going mobile

AccelGolf is blending new technology with the age-old game of golf. They have developed a mobile application for the Blackberry, iPhone, and Android that could take your golf game to the next level and improve your handicap.

AccelGolf’s application has three categories that can all be accessed with your smart phone: AccelGold helps improve your golf skills by tracking the changes in your game, giving insights on how to improve, and providing you easy to use lessons. The Digital Golf Bag manages your clubs for you, provides club recommendations and keeps you updated on your new club purchases. Oh but wait, there’s more.

The Satellite Rangefinder has to be the best component in AccelGolf’s application. As someone who comes from a family of golfers, I know how difficult it can be to map out the course. The Satellite Rangefinder helps you map out yardag and plan your shots; the guesswork is gone. AccelGolf also has an International Course Database that holds over 20,000 courses in 60 countries.

On February 17th TechCrunch announced AccelGolf’s $600K in angel funding. The Boston TechStars alums are now based in Portland, Maine, and have raised a total of $1.06M after this round of funding. Currently, the application for all three major platforms (iPhone, Android, and Blackberry) is free, but they are looking to roll out a premium application soon.

AccelGolf is taking the game into the 21st century. Golf is such a timeless sport and it will be interesting to see if AccelGolf can continue to blend it with ever-changing mobile technology. With 46,200-some-odd users so far we’re betting they have a pretty good chance to make a name for themselves in app stores across all three mobile platforms.
