In case you haven’t heard of it… yet… gdgt (pronounced gee dee gee tee) is a relatively new site co-founded by Peter Rojas and Ryan Block, well known for their days at Engadget (Peter was Co-Founder, Ryan, Editor in Chief). It launched about a year ago. Until you try the site out, it’s a little hard to explain but I’ll give it a go.

If you love gadgets, it’s a place you’re gonna like to hang out. Create a profile, list the gadgets you have, the ones you’ve owned previously, create wish lists of the ones you want, read reviews, discuss, chat, and learn enough about your gadgets that you could sit on an expert panel between reps from HTC and Apple.

Outside of the cool web-based experience, what’s cool about gdgt is that they’re taking things offline with a series of well-sponsored tech events around the country. So far this year they’ve been to Chicago and Seattle. Next up: Boston.

Barry Myers of gdgt is a native of Framingham, Mass., but says bringing the show to Boston is about more than just getting an excuse to visit friends, family and the BU campus (his alma mater). “Boston is a terrific overlap with our demo. We’re hoping to attract students, young professional, and really anyone that is interested in gadgets,” he says.

The show is slated for September 22, but does not have a location. Companies including HTC, Kodak, and Logitech are already committed, and gdgt expects a crowd between 500-1,000. The format flows from an early evening press hour to a 3-hour event open to the public, during which geeked-up Bostonians can check out the latest tech gadgets, gear and services while munching on passed hors douvres and sipping cocktails. Myers also said, they’ll have a Q&A panel with some of the sponsors. Previous participants have included Windows Phone, Moxie, and Arris.

I just returned from the show in Seattle and I have to say, it was pretty cool. Think: a fraction of the massive Consumer Electronics Showcase (CES), meets an ubercool urban setting. Attendees can expect great content, good food, good drinks, and a smart crowd. If you’re into gadgets, it’s quite a party.

Oh, and did I mention admission is free?

What do you think of gdgt online? Have you made it to either of their previous events this year? What did you think? Will you be at the Boston event? Let us know what you’re thinking in the comments section below.
