The iPhone is great for photogs and pic snapping addicts alike. It is an incredibly portable and convenient tool for capturing everyday events, special moments, and times with buddies and family. Premiering in the App Store just a couple days ago, ComicStrip is a fun, Boston-based app that allows you to add some context to all those photos you take — even if you’re a crappy photographer.

ComicStrip is elegantly designed for both iPhone and iPad and lets you have some fun with your photos by easily creating stories around them in a few simple taps and swipes. You select the template you want, the photos you want in the scenes, and the captions you want to add, just as if you were architecting your very own comic book scene. And since stories are usually best when shared, ComicStrip also allows you to tag your friends and upload the strip to Facebook and Twitter, all without ever leaving the app.

For those of you who enjoy apps like Hipstamatic, Instagram and Photobooth, ComicStrip offers a fun, alternate way to express your photo-creativity. $1.99 gets you both the iPad and iPhone/iPod Touch versions with a decent selection of templates, stickers, and word bubble styles that let you fine-tune your stories.

Pictures from parties, vacations, and even everyday nonsense can easily be turned into comic strip-styled narratives. And with the holidays just around the corner, even drunken family members are fair game for ComicStrip.

Although it would be nice to see some additional effects and stickers in a future update, one of the app’s nicest features is actually its simplicity. The UI is clean, minimal, and almost idiot-proof. Rather than fussing with a mess of dials and settings, ComicStrip lets you focus instead on capturing your photos and creating your comic strip story.

The process of creating a comic strip takes just a minute or two. Upon opening ComicStrip, you’re presented with a blank template, which you can easily populate with either photos taken on the spot or ones from your device Library. Although the large screen on the iPad provides the most favorable canvas for editing, resizing images and stretching word bubbles is surprisingly easy even on an iPhone. And once everything’s in place, posting to the social web is made super easy via Twitter and Facebook integration and the ability to tag people from a complete list of your Facebook friends.

ComicStrip is the creation of Boston-based Sketch & Scotch, a group focused on creating fun, social experiences through simple and intuitive designs, and was developed in collaboration with Green Volcano Software, makers of the popular Flickit iPhone app.

We had fun with the app and think it’s worth the couple bucks. If you’re anyone that’s looking for a creative way to share photos, hit up the app store now and support our local mobile talent!
