Not only is a Boston-area startup developing a “legal” WikiLeaks product (and, no we’re not “brainwashing” about WikiLeaks’ legality), but Cambridge-based Backupify is the only Twitter account with the power to direct message WikiLeaks and Julian Assange.

Backupify, the popular cloud-based backup company, is leading the way in social backup with their TweetBackup product. In order to use TweetBackup you must follow their account on Twitter. Needless to say WikiLeaks takes its security, hosting, and backup seriously, so their choice in selecting Backupify says a lot about the stability, technology, and team behind this Boston area company.

We pulled a months worth of news data when WikiLeaks broke in July to identify the top sites publishing stories about the scandal, the most referenced words in headlines with a WikiLeaks mention, as well as found that it seemed to double the amount of press around the Afghanistan War. Today, WikiLeaks is garnering a LOT more mentions in the news — almost three times as much as the end of July, and peaking on Monday, November 29th:

So, what message should Backupify send to Twitter? Leave them in the comments!
