Second Glass takes its wine seriously. But not so seriously that they don’t have a lot of fun with it. The Boston-based company, which recently opened an office in Los Angeles, plans to take the wine-rating app they created for their annual Wine Riot to the 20th annual Boston Wine Expo.

The app will be accessible on any smart phone via a mobile site (m.secondglass.com), and Second Glass’ partnership with the Boston Wine Expo is a fantastic way for Second Glass to get their products recognized by even more loyal Wine Expo frequenters.

Anyone attending the Expo can rate and check out the wines available, and thanks to the Second Glass app, wineries will benefit from attendees spreading the word about their own awesome beverages. Since the Boston Wine Expo is the largest wine expo in the country with over 1,800 wines and about 20,000 attendees, it looks like the right place to introduce their wine-rating app at other events!

“At wine events, you can taste dozens of wines you really like, but remembering the name of the wine isn’t always easy,” said Tyler Balliet, Co-Founder and President of Second Glass. “That’s why we created the mobile guide. It allows people to easily remember everything they taste so they can buy the wine the next day, week or even month.”

The mobile site will not only provide a list of wines offered at the event, but it will help attendees remember their favorites by allowing them to rate each with “two thumbs up,” “one thumbs up,” or “no thumbs up.” Users can even keep a “to buy” list, or check out the highest-rated wines, which will be posted in a live stream.

Second Glass seeks to bring wine to the masses without that sometimes snooty approach to the pastime of wine-drinking. The company creates online and mobile tools for wine producers and consumers alike, and its hip new approach to the wine business has gained it a lot of notoriety. Second Glass holds annual Wine Riots, an interactive wine event in five cities across the US, which is meant to bring people together with wine.

Second Glass is also planning on continuing to develop their app by introducing it to other wine expos in the future. Tyler Balliet told us, “We’re reaching out to events all over the country because the app helped Wine Riot attendees remember wines. We think it can do the same for those at other wine expos, whether they’re for 120 people or, in this case, 20,000 people.” The company is also working on an iPhone app to take the success of their mobile site to another level.
