“What is a journo-programmer, and how does higher education create one? Or is it a god-given gift, and is our job merely to develop the talent where it already exists? Can you teach a programmer to be a writer, or a writer to be a programmer?”

Dave Winer shares his thoughts on the “journo-programmer,” and mainly how to teach them at universities (speaking to how NYU and Columbia are doing it). He hopes the “hackathon” approach disappears, and instead shift a focus on the basics like knowing how to create an aggregator, run your own server, etc.
