This article dives into research from J.P. Morgan analyst Mark Moskowitz around the tablet sensation. Moskowitz does not believe there is enough demand in 2011 for tablets to match what appears to be over-production by manufacturers. His research projects — in a worst-case scenario — that half of tablets produced may be left on store shelves. (His estimates are that over 65 million tablets will be made while only under 48 million will be sold.) He also notes that the Motorola Xoom and HP TouchPad seem to be the only two with chance for success, with others falling miserably short compared to what the iPad delivers.

“In our view, the technical and form factor improvements of the iPad 2 stand to make it tougher for the first generation of competitive offerings to play catch-up, meaning actual shipments could fall well short of plan,” Moskowitz wrote.
