Although the Massachusetts Lottery isn’t quite ready to go mobile, they are introducing a new instant ticket this year with our city’s most beloved team.

The Mass Lottery and the Boston Red Sox are teaming up to continue their winning streak into the 2011 season by adding a new $2 Red Sox instant ticket. This ticket adds to the Mass Lottery’s successful portfolio of co-branded instant tickets, which to-date have generated sales of over $800 million.

The $2 Red Sox Instant Ticket marks the Lottery’s sixth Red Sox-branded offering since 2006, when the Lottery introduced the nation’s first instant ticket to feature a Major League Baseball team logo.

“The Massachusetts Lottery’s long-standing partnership with the Red Sox organization has proven to be a winning combination for the Commonwealth’s 351 cities and towns,” said State Treasurer Steve Grossman. “The series of Red Sox branded games have collectively raised more than $107 million in local aid revenues. Sales from this latest game can help grow monies available for return to municipalities by another $8.2 million.”

The new Red Sox Instant Ticket hits shelves today at the Lottery’s 7,300 licensed retailers across the state. The $2 game offers immediate cash prizes totaling over $26 million, including 20 top prizes of $25,000 and 660,140 prizes that range from $10 to $10,000. The game also features a unique second-chance drawing through which players can enter their non-winning tickets for a chance to win Official Red Sox merchandise prize packs and an opportunity to win up to $25,000 in a home game challenge at Fenway Park.

“The Red Sox organization is proud of our long-standing partnership with the Massachusetts Lottery and the record amount of revenue generated by the games that has benefited municipalities throughout the Commonwealth,” said Sam Kennedy, Executive Vice President/COO of the Boston Red Sox.

In addition to offering lottery players with an opportunity to win additional prizes through the $2 Red Sox Instant Ticket’s second chance drawings, the Lottery will roll out yet another opportunity to win along with the introduction of the new ticket. The $1,000,000 Triple Play is an Internet-based bonus game where players enter one non-winning ticket from each of the Lottery’s three active Red Sox games – $2 Red Sox Instant Ticket, $5 Red Sox Instant Ticket, and $10 Red Sox Monster Money – for a chance to win cash prizes up to $1 million every time the Red Sox win a game during the 2011 regular season.

Players can learn more about these second chance games by picking up a brochure at any Lottery sales agent location or by visiting the Lottery online at: www.masslottery.com.

Since creating the industry’s MLB-themed ticket market in April 2006, the Massachusetts Lottery has built a robust portfolio of sports-branded instant tickets including several game offerings with the Boston Celtics, Boston Bruins and the New England Patriots. The Lottery’s partnerships with the region’s professional sports franchises have produced more than $1.1 billion in ticket sales, returning more than $160 million in profit to the Commonwealth for local aid.

“The Lottery’s portfolio of Red Sox Instant Tickets has helped propel our sports-themed games to record-breaking sales levels” said Lottery Executive Director Paul Sternburg. “We are excited to introduce a $2 ticket to the game mix that rewards our players with multiple opportunities to win sizable cash prizes, as well as authentic Red Sox gear and collectables.”
