We love receiving and spreading this type of news: growth numbers.

Coming off from big news this past Thursday when the company announced being spun off from InterActiveCorp and Expedia into its own public company, TripAdvisor has shared its latest growth numbers.

Here are some highlights and milestones to give you a sense of the company that has grown and thrived here in Boston throughout the last decade, and which plans to continue to grow here moving forward:

  • TripAdvisor now boasts 45 million travel related reviews and opinions (that’s up from 35 million in May 2010)
  • 23 new reviews are contributed by travelers to TripAdvisor every minute
  • Since October 2010 alone, 5 million reviews have been added (that’s on average just under 1 million reviews a month)
  • TripAdvisor reviews cover over 85k destinations, 474k hotels, 100k vacation rentals, 135k attractions, and over 675k restaurants
  • Over 6 million candid traveler photos have been added to TripAdvisor to date

Where are all these reviews coming from? TripAdvisor has expanded its travel review and advice site into 29 countries, supporting over 20 languages. Since the beginning of 2010 alone the company has expanded into Argentina, Greece, Indonesia, Russia, Singapore, Thailand, Australia, Norway, Poland, Taiwan, Malaysia and even Korea.

“TripAdvisor continues to experience remarkable growth because travelers the world over find exactly what they’re looking for on the site: a wealth of travel-planning tools and the reviews and opinions of millions of other travelers, including their own friends,” said Stephen Kaufer, founder and CEO of TripAdvisor. “Since our launch over a decade ago, we have expanded not only our travel-planning features to include Flights, Vacation Rentals, Attractions, and so on, but we have also expanded our global reach. We’re now in nearly 30 countries.”
