We often take for granted that Boston is one of the oldest cities in America. It was one of the first cities to operate a railroad, which ran between Lowell and Boston starting in 1830 (and which ultimately turned into the modern day Commuter Rail and Green “D” Line). Later in the 1800s came street cars, the congestion of which led to the development of Boston’s subway system in 1897 — a system that is in fact America’s first subway system. (The history of the MBTA is pretty fascinating.)

The MBTA recently opened an online gift store selling merchandise like T-Shirts, mugs, magnets, and more as a throwback to its history and contribution to city culture. And as of early today, they are also selling authentic, antique old maps and signs from as early as the 60s — the date when the T’s logo (the letter T in a circle) was adopted.
