The tablet game just got a little more competitive. As anticipated, Google is now fulfilling pre-order purchases (made through Google Play) of their readily available inaugural tablet, Nexus 7. Being shipped as we speak, the Nexus 7 looks to bring the competition directly to Kindle Fire–and Kindle Fire 2–producer Amazon’s doorstep. The tablet runs on Android’s 4.1 Jelly Bean OS and was keenly manufactured by Asus. Nexus 7 was unveiled at Google’s annual I/O two weeks ago and suggested the tablet would be available within that same timeframe. They’ve come through valiantly with their promise.

According to The Verge,  customers who placed their pre-order with GameStop are being contacted to pick up their tablet Friday. They also say that each GameStop location receiving enough stock to fill those initial pre-orders on the first wave, with a second wave of shipments expected in August “at the earliest.” The Nexus 7 release date is actually here, now that you can finally pick them up.

To put it professionally, Google’s flagship tablet specs are ridonkulous. I’m talking an intoxicating cocktail of innovative technology and functional gadgetry. A quad-core processor here, a dash of 8GB-16GB memory there, a splash of 1280×800 HD display with pixel density of 216 ppi, shake over a 1.2 megapixel camera, and serve with 8 hours of battery life.

This upcoming holiday season will be dominated by tablets. Apple is still the leader in the tablet game with the iPad however, the competitors are slowly taking market share and increasing their presence with consumers. With the biggest tech companies in the world constantly working on improving their tablet computers we should be in store for some surprises in the next few months.

Google, Amazon, Apple, and Samsung are all vying for the number one spot in the tablet game. Which device do you think is poised to make the biggest impact? And, which will you be asking for this holiday season.
