Samsung released a video yesterday to promote its Samsung Mobile Unpacked event, to be held in Berlin on August 29th, and it’s got the internet buzzing. More so than the actual event, many people are talking about the possibility that Samsung dropped subtle hints in the video about the release of its much anticipated Galaxy Note II. The Samsung Galaxy Note II release date will reportedly be on August 29th. Critics, writers, and tech junkies alike are all contemplating on what the “small and light thing” in the video is actually referencing. And while nobody knows for sure, it’s safe to say its the smartphone/tablet hybrid–though the specs still remain undisclosed.

Despite trying to keep any developments under wraps, Samsung isn’t able to fool the general public any longer. The Korean electronics company has already noted to various media outlets that there would be a Galaxy Note device unveiled at the event, then backpedalled slightly by saying they’d simply be releasing something new. We will be watching the Galaxy Note release date very closely over the next week.

The “phablet” is a revolutionary piece of technology, seamlessly integrating the benefits that a tablet and smartphone have to offer. While the specs are still be speculated on, we can look at the Galaxy Note to see what Samsung has to build on. The Galaxy Note runs on Android’s Ice Cream Sandwich OS and features an HD 5.3 inch 1280×800 pixel display, dual-core processor, 48GB of total memory, and a front (2 megapixel) and rear (8 megapixel) 4x zoom digital optical camera.

Of course, with the “small and light” reference, people aren’t sure of whether Samsung is looking to scale back on the device’s size while bolstering its power. The Korea IT Times is willing to bet that it comes with a 5.5-inch unbreakable HD display that runs at a resolution of 1280×800, a 1.5 GHz Exynos 4 Quad chipset, a rear-facing camera as powerful as 13-megapixels, and the S pen stylus that users of the original Galaxy Note are accustomed to.
