Last week, the nation celebrated national Manufacturing Day. But just in case you – like me – missed it, here’s a very cool infographic sharing the history of manufacturing in Massachusetts.

High end manufacturing continues to play a strong role in the state economy, both a cause and effect of our strength in science and innovation. Though I just heard innovation policy scholar Rob Atkinson speak last night at an event sponsored by the New England Venture Capital Association about how, while the U.S. does well at scientific innovation, we’re not great at engineering innovation. (He has a new book out on the subject.) One piece of that is a lack of innovation in manufacturing. I’ve written about the debate around this issue here.

In any case, here’s a neat history of manufacturing in Massachusetts:
