Red Line riders were quick to react when a 54-year-old woman from Minnesota fell off the platform at Kendall Square Station on Sunday night and landed on the train tracks below.

According to MBTA spokesman Joe Pesaturo, the woman was transported to Massachusetts General Hospital with minor back pains following the incident, which occurred around 6:48 p.m.

In the video, the victim can be seen talking to someone as she walks along the platform too close to the edge. At one point the woman appears to lose her footing and slip off the side.

As soon as the woman falls, alert bystanders rush to her aid and help pull her out of the pit and off of the tracks. Luckily, there was no train in the vicinity when the woman fell onto the tracks.

According to a police report, the woman’s husband said they were talking with some friends on the inbound platform and his wife was walking backward. He stated that she continued to walk backward into the pit and fell into it.

“He then jumped into the pit to help get her out and other passengers assisted in lifting her onto the platform,” according to the police report.

A witness Tweeted on Sunday night that it was “unbelievable and moving” how many random strangers stopped to help the victim to safety.

“My faith in humanity is restored in a big way tonight. People jumped without thinking twice,” she Tweeted.
