If we learned anything this weekend, it was that Bostonians really love food trucks.

The inaugural Food Truck Throwdown took place on Saturday, October 13 in Dewey Square on the Rose Kennedy Greenway. The battle pitted seven Boston-based food trucks against seven New York food trucks in the most delicious competition this city has ever seen, created by Kickass Cupcakes owner Sara Ross.

Of course, Boston came out victorious, winning the People’s Choice Award for Best Food Truck City. Hometown advantage, anyone?

After residents voted on trucks in September, the final participants were Bon MeLobsta LoveMei Mei Street KitchenRoxy’s Grilled CheeseStaff Meal and The Cookie Monstah. Kickass Cupcakes naturally got a “bye” in the voting and was there as well.

Ross estimates between 14,000 to 18,000 people gathered to sample the fare, although she notes they’re still waiting on the official headcount. The crowds stayed until well past 9 p.m., barring long lines and a brisk fall evening to get their hands on mobile eateries from both near and far.

Ross says for her, “getting to meet all the NY truckers, and seeing this event come to life in such a big way,” were highlights for her first Throwdown. “Everybody loved it!”
