Those watching the Presidential election on ABC yesterday might have gotten a little bit more entertainment than initially expected. Sure, the nail-biting suspense surrounding the two candidates vying to lead our great nation through economic turmoil, healthcare skepticism and uncertainty in the Middle East is entertainment enough, but Diane Sawyer provided some comic relief as well. It appeared to many that Diane Sawyer was drunk on live national television.

Did Diane Sawyer have one too many while reporting live on ABC last night?

Sawyer fumbled over sentences, slurred countless words, rambled about how a woman in labor had to vote before giving birth, and asked the question on everybody’s mind, “At one point, President Obama’s campaign put an exclamation point after Forward!, it was just an exclamation point, when did they decide that was the right message?” I’m sure  Mr. and Mrs. John Q. Taxpayer appreciate your eloquence Diane, though I can’t blame you for allowing election campaigns as slanderous as this to drive you to the bottle.

Nobody looked more irritated than co-anchor George Stephanopoulos who appeared stone-faced during the entirety of the clip, probably because Sawyer took his booze to the face too. A blog entry for the Chicago Sun-Times says of the two, “He co-chaired the event with the indefatigable if sometimes overly thrilled Diane Sawyer, whose energy is awe-inspiring, though there sometimes seems to be way too much air around her words and coming out of her ears”

Gossip website Gawker threw another shocker out there by noting that this isn’t even the first time Sawyer has taken to Grandpa’s ol’ cough medicine while on the air.

Here’s another clip of Diane Sawyer “relaxing”:

It’ll be interesting to see if the long-time news anchor catches any flack for this. For all we know, she may very well be punch-drunk from covering the election. Either way, thanks Diane for some light-hearted fun during the most crucial event our nation participates in.
