Update, 1:30 p.m., 2/28: Justin Timberlake’s official website has confirmed a second Boston date for Legends of the Summer Stadium Tour on August 11th at Fenway. Tickets go on sale to the public Friday, March 8th at LiveNation.com.

Update, 11:45 a.m., 2/22: Justin Timberlake’s official website has confirmed the Legends of the Summer Stadium Tour, which will be coming to Boston on August 10th. Tickets go on sale to the public on Thursday, February 28th at Ticketmaster.com.

The men who brushed that dirt off their shoulders and brought sexy back in a big way with their recent release of “Suit & Tie,” could be making their way to Boston this summer. That’s right, folks, rumor has it that Jay-Z and Justin Timberlake could be performing two concerts at Fenway Park in August.

According to the Boston Herald:

The Red Sox went to City Hall yesterday asking for concert permits for Aug. 10 and 11 when the team is in Kansas City to play the Royals. Although the Sox didn’t specify the musical act, we’re told it’s the blockbuster combo of Timberlake, who hasn’t toured in six years, and the hip-hop giant.

Cue the screams.

Last week, Rolling Stone reported that Timberlake and Jay-Z are likely going on tour to promote the launch of  Timberlake’s new album, The 20/20 Experience, out later this year. “While talks are still ongoing, the tour as currently planned would include 11 to 13 stadium dates,” wrote the magazine, and the Baltimore Business Journal reported on rumors that “Timberlake and Jay-Z are scheduled to play M&T Bank Stadium sometime in early August.”

While we’re still working primarily with rumors here, if true, this tour could be huge for Timberlake, Jay-Z and Fenway, as well. Before “Suit & Tie,” Timberlake hadn’t released a single in six years — since 2006 — spending his time with SNL skits like “Dick in a Box” and marrying Jessica Biel. While Jay-Z wasn’t on hiatus, he’s been busy taking care of his new baby with Beyonce. And he would be, according to the Herald, Fenway’s first “major urban act,” for whatever that phrase is worth.

No word yet on ticket sales for the potential summer concert at the park, but you can better believe these tickets will sell out a million times faster (not a mathematical certainty) than when New Kids on the Block and Backstreet Boys performed there in June 2011.

Also, I’ll have you know that my birthday is August 11th, so for anyone looking for a great gift to bestow upon me, nothing would make me happier than hearing the crooning voice of JT pumping through the speakers at Fenway.

We’ll keep you updated as we learn more about the potential Jay-Z and JT Fenway show, but for now, let’s cross our fingers that this rumor turns out to be very, very true.
