Several months back, I was on a run through Georgetown. It was hot…no, scorching. My feet burned as they hit the pavement and I was in need of a breeze. I jogged down to the waterfront, ran through the fancy fountain, scared a ton of the kids playing in it and then made my way under the Key Bridge – that’s the part of Georgetown you only visit when your friend wants to kayak on the Potomac that one time they decided to feel adventurous. As I contorted my body in some sort of running motion through the 100 degree weather, I noticed a sign for Malmaison, a warehouse that was promising “art, music and pastries” when it opened.

Well it has, six/seven weeks ago according to the barista who may or may not be your bartender as well if you choose to take advantage of the full bar that shares space with the espresso machine.

This place is damn good. From the apple pastry that I literally devoured, to the perfect cappuccino – not too hot, not too bitter, well balanced flavor, perfect amount of frothy goodness. It’s a bright, open concept with plenty of comfortable seating, kind staff and free WiFi. Blues music playing in the background is just that, background, it’s not too loud, but it’s there, providing the ambiance of a hipster San Francisco/New York coffee shop that it very much reminds me of.

Morning service runs from 8am-4pm daily. The place also serves lunch and dinner and after 11 pm doubles as a lounge/dance party locale which I’ve heard is well worth checking out. Check out their website here and let us know what you think of the place.
