I can’t be the only one sick of the term Millennial

I find that the meaning is being misconstrued, while the word is used to swiftly define a generation. It is often used by out-of-touch decision makers to draw attention to their ideas or interests. Too many times is it attached to a negative connotation, or as a tool to show how drastically everything is changing.

Don’t get me wrong. There are plenty of individuals and organizations that leverage the term for productive use. Take Chelsea Krost and her weekly Twitter chat, #MillennialTalk.

But let’s look at a few facts…

Millennial’s represent a generation 7% larger than Baby Boomer’s.

Technology is disrupting sectors from education to finance at a rapid rate.

Millennial’s represent the 18-34 year old demographic today, and are on the forefront of social, economical, and technological advances.

Millennial’s face new problems in every sector, but have been innovative in creating new solutions. I believe the negativity surrounding the generation stems from individuals that are scared of change. Sure, there are the trouble makers in every generation; but I think today’s young adults are simply on the cusp of revolutionary changes ranging from social to technological norms. It’s time to stop fighting the changes; start embracing them! (I might be speaking to major media companies, Fox News, you get it….)
