Range Rover UK has developed a remote control car that will appeal to a slightly more mature audience than its RC counterparts. The British luxury carmaker has created a prototype that allows drivers to control their Range Rover Sport using a smartphone app.

This is not the first experiment with smartphone car operation, as Tesla’s Model S allows owners to unlock and turn on their cars using a smartphone. However, the Range Rover prototype is unique in that it lets users actually drive using their phones.

Speed is limited to 4 mph and the phone needs to be within 10 feet of the vehicle, so it’s not as if you’ll be zipping down the highway using your phone, but Range Rover hopes that the feature will help drivers navigate dangerous terrain and tight parking spots. For a little added fun, Range Rover also says they may eventually build voice commands into the system.

At this point, the feature is just an engineering prototype, and according to Techcrunch, Range Rover has not specified when it will be released to production models.

As with many of the other digital advances in the automotive industry, security is a major concern. Range Rover will certainly want to ensure that a hacker can’t drive off with your new RR Sport, though at 4mph, you might stand a fighting chance.
