On Tuesday, Mayor Walsh’s office announced the winner of the Portrait of a City competition: Adam O’Day with his masterpiece Transit. And while yes, his work captures much of the spirit of Boston, there’s a new way you can leave your artistic mark on the city. That is, if you’re willing to go ditigal.

The Massachusetts Convention Center Authority in tandem with Boston Cyberarts – which brought us this amphibious artistry – are soliciting 30-second videos, animations, or computer-generated works to be displayed on the 3,000-square-foot, 80-foot-tall marquee at the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center in the Innovation District.

The three-sided LED marquee is comprised of seven screens, and has played host to plenty works of art in the past. According to Art on the Marquee, the MCCA isn’t looking for any particular theme, but there are some content creation guidelines whose looking to submit works ought to take a glance at.

As long as submissions abide by the guidelines and the artist, or team of artists, reside in Massachusetts ,there are no limits to what can be exhibited on the big screen.

What’s great about the opportunity to submit art for this project is that it breaks away from traditional mediums, and a next-generation screen acts as the canvas. Perhaps even more lucrative for the artist is that the exposure is unparalleled: the marquee is visible by upwards of 100,000 pedestrians and motorists for up to half a mile in multiple directions on any given day.

To apply, send a proposal to this email address by midnight on Sunday, August 31. Be sure to include a one-page-or-less description of the project, an attached jpeg image of the proposed arrangement of content across the seven different screens which are outlined in the content creation guidelines, links to samples of two pieces of your work done online that are no longer than one minute each, and a resume and cover letter.

Boston Cyberarts and MCAA will then whittle down the submissions and award as many as 10 artists a $500 honorarium. Notifications will be sent out by September 4 and if you’re chosen, be sure to have your project ready for display by September 24.
