Chances are, you haven’t given your closet a good cleaning in a while. Old shirts you never wear, the funky/trendy piece that was a terrible idea in hindsight and more outdated items linger in your wardrobe, collecting dust and taking up space. It’s a chore to haul it off to Goodwill, and heading to a consignment store means you leave with five dollars and almost as much stuff as you went in with.

Luckily, here in Boston, we have Fashion Project. This local company invites those looking to clean out their closets to send in their gently used and unwanted clothing, shoes and accessories for online consignment, with the proceeds donated to the charity of their choice. Not a bad deal, considering those clothes would otherwise be siting in a garbage bag in the back of your car for weeks on end.

Now, in addition to donating to charity and clearing out your personal space, there’s an added incentive to donate to Fashion Project in the mix. Lord & Taylor department store locations in Massachusetts and New Hampshire will hand off a $20 gift card for every five qualifying pieces donated to Fashion Project. (To find out when makes a qualifying piece, click here.) We know you’ve got five pieces of neglected clothing in your closet, if not many more, and this way, you’ll make money for new clothes while simultaneously donating. For this promotion, all proceeds from the donated clothing will go to two local charities: The Jimmy Fund and the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

This offer will run from today through August 3, so open those closets, dump out those drawers, and weed out the bad seeds. You’ll receive prepaid shipping materials after registering online, but if that sounds like a whole to do for a lazy like you, participating Lord & Taylor locations are offering in-store drop offs for unwanted items on July 12 and 13 as well as July 26 and 27.

Participating Lord & Taylors include:

The Shops at Prudential Center, Boston, MA

The Burlington Mall, Burlington, MA

South Shore Plaza, Braintree, MA

The Natick Mall, Natick, MA

The Mall at Rockingham Park, Salem, NH
