Monday 7/14

Summer Business Bootcamp: Financial Modeling Workshop – Join General Assembly tonight for a jump start on how to get your business idea off the ground using financial models. You’ll work in groups to learn when a model is needed, how to build one and how to use it effectively in your business’ setting. Intermediate knowledge of basic Excel commands is recommended, so brush up on those spreadsheets before you get there.

Cambridge Bitcoin Meetup – Interested in Bitcoin? Confused and want to know more? Or, looking to trade some BTC with other folks? Head over to Moska restaurant in Cambridge tonight to discuss anything and everything that has to do with the digital currency.

Getting Started with GitHub – Designers and developers have flocked to GitHub since its launch in 2008 as a way to collaborate on open-source projects. But what’s so special about it? How can you get involved? And how is it different than Git? Lucky for you, this free General Assembly class will go through all of that to make you a pro at GitHub by the end of the night. Beginners are welcome, but be sure to come to class with a laptop, a GitHub account created, and a text editor and Git installed on your computer. Oh, and did we mention it’s free?

Tech, Drugs and Rock ‘n’ Roll – TDRR is a networking event hosted by Boston University designed to connect scientists and engineers with entrepreneurs, investors and innovators. The event will highlight innovation from within BU’s research programs, and aims to bring together people to make lifelong and successful collaborations. Annual Boston Harbor Startup Networking CruiseIEEE Boston Entrepreneurs‘ 12th annual sunset cruise networking event will be held this Tuesday night aboard Mass Bay Line’s ship, Freedom. The cruise will last from 7:15-9:30 p.m. with additional dockside networking until 10:15. Perspective on DevOps – Come join this panel discussion on devops from the perspective of different roles in an organization. The panel will open with a presentation from Boston DevOps member Dave Fredericks on Building Your All-Star Devops Team, followed by an open discussion. Representatives from Cengage, Cloud Technology Partners, Bitlancer, Scout and Huge will all be in attendance to give their opinions, too.

Travel & Education Hackathon – Join LearnLaunch and team up with other developers to create a travel-based app for students. While traveling to new countries is a great opportunity for everyone, not all kids will have the privilege of doing so. These apps aim to help students learn about other cultures and languages to spark curiosity in foreign countries. The hackathon will last from 6 p.m. on Friday to 9 p.m. on Saturday, with food, drinks, networking times and overall prizes at the end. Register here.
