Happy National Hot Dog Day, Boston! Given the number of tweets and mentions regarding the holiday, it’s clear that we’re enthusiastic about our hot dogs – especially Fenway Franks. And in honor of the tasty holiday, Kayem, the official Frank and Sausage of the Boston Red Sox and Fenway Park, hosted a “Create the Next Fenway Frank” contest.

The contest happened earlier today at The Landing at Long Wharf, where the company held a special lunchtime celebration with free hot dogs. Red Sox icons Steve Lyons and Rico Petrocelli were also on-hand to announce the grand prize winner, whose home run hot dog will be sold within Fenway Park throughout the summer, notes an official source.

The “lucky dogs” that went to head to head in today’s competition included the “Greenville Southern Drive Dog” and “The Monstah”. The winner was the Greenville Southern Drive Dog which came topped with warm, smoky pulled pork and creamy coleslaw. The runner-up, The Monstah hot dog, was topped with Boston baked beans, honey mustard, warm sweet onion, sharp cheddar cheese, and crispy smokey bacon bits.

According to a source, the winning hot dog will be honored on-field at a Red Sox game next Monday, July 28. You can also try the hot dog for yourself all summer long at Fenway Park.
