I’d guess that fashion lovers, myself included, are the second-largest group bolstering The Hunger Games, following the tween market. The movie franchise caught my attention with its physics-defying fashion designer Cinna (played by Lenny Kravitz), Alexander McQueen gown cameos, and Katniss’s oh-so-cool cable knit scarf. Well, it turns out the series’ fictional setting, Panem, is just as fascinated with its citizens’ wardrobe choices as I am. The evidence? Capitol Couture, an online fashion magazine from the ruling district.

A clever marketing ploy for the upcoming November 21 release of The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1, Capitol Couture covers the latest trends in Panem using pieces from real-world designers. Front and center are “living portraits” of characters Peeta Mellark (Josh Hutcherson) and Johanna Mason (Jena Malone), both wearing all white as part of a Panem campaign. Peeta sports a shirt and shoes designed by Maison Martin Margiela with a paper collar from David Mason, while Johanna accessorizes with Alexander Wang shoes and hand-carved marble bangles by Chen Chen and Kai Williams.

When the fashion is this good, it’s easy to get mentally trapped in Panem. Next time I need an escape from reality, I’ll be perusing Capitol Couture for styling tips from the future.
