It’s fitting that EnerNOC sits at ONE Marina Park Drive in the Seaport. The intelligent energy-efficiency software firm’s headquarters are next to the natural beauty of the Harbor, yet in the thick of the burgeoning South Boston business district.

Natural light pours in through wide windows, and illuminates open rows of desks. In fact, there’s not a corner office to be found on EnerNOC’s three-floor compound. Instead of small breakout rooms, each floor boasts multiple collaborative spaces, furnished with modern gray and chartreuse cushioned benches, a work bar and TV.

Teams can work anywhere and everywhere around the space, however; nearly all walls are covered in IdeaPaint, facilitating impromptu diagramming or bright-hued, employee-crafted murals. (IdeaPaint also has a beautiful office in Downtown Boston.)

While there are certainly ocean views in plenty, EnerNOC employees aren’t quite the type to watch from afar; they’re collaborative go-getters. While some may squirm at the idea of going for an afternoon kayak amidst the massive boats coming and going in the Harbor and blasting their fog horns, people still insist on taking a quick paddle break.

Members of EnerNOC’s 400-person team can also be found snagging coffee or in meetings on the boardwalk close to the patch of greenery across from District Hall. Indoors, employees have been known to travel via scooter (each department decorates their own), and get into some heated foosball matches. Plus, much like Yesware, the company is also known for its weekly yoga practice.

To cater to the team’s high activity levels, the cleantech company’s office has multiple showers. Though each floor housed a shower when EnerNOC moved in last summer, the firm took it upon itself to add a few more for its energetic staff.

When employees are feeling like they need a recharge, however, they can pop into one of the handful of restoration rooms. By that, we basically mean studio apartments, because each room offers not only a lounge-worthy couch, but also a microwave, refrigerator, sink and mirror. If it’s a snack they need, people can head down to EnerNOC’s wood-panelled and stainless steel kitchen that’s stocked with fruit and healthy treats.
