What combines the nostalgia of temporary tattoos with must-try jewelry trends? Flash tattoos – luminous silver and gold press-on designs ranging from geometric patterns to henna motifs and even palm trees. The trend confidently goes where your jewelry collection can’t, at least not safely: beachside, pool parties, festivals, and wherever showing skin is encouraged.

Spotted on Coachella-goers (including supermodel Alessandra Ambrosio) and Miami Swim Week runways, this metallic “ink” begs to be experimented with before bronzed summer skin gets covered up by fall’s cozy sweaters. While a metallic feather might grace your bicep or hip, jewelry-inspired designs reminiscent of knuckle rings, dainty anklets, or bib necklaces layer beautifully with your own baubles. Vogue.com Senior Fashion Editor Jorden Bickham says: “It becomes an illusion – the kind of thing where people have to ask, ‘Is that your jewelry or is that a tattoo?’”

Part of the appeal (particularly for commitment-phones) is that the gilded look is gone in a flash. The tats only last four to six days, but if you flaunt them while soaking up rays, don’t be surprised when the tan lines hang around. Just think of them as a memento from your sun-filled adventures.
