A year ago, we sat down with Amanda Curtis, the founder of the local fashion startup Nineteenth Amendment, to discuss her company’s mission. A fashion designer who couldn’t catch the attention of retailers without a record of previous sales, Curtis switched gears to start a company that could help other budding designers avoid the same catch-22. She built a site that would give designers a platform to test and target their designs for real buyers, giving them a handle on the market before producing a line on a larger scale that might be nixed later on. The best part? They’ll have a history of selling their items before they go in front of retailers.

Now, Nineteenth Amendment is making progress in the tech and fashion realm. The startup was hand selected by the New York Fashion Tech Lab as a new company looking to create solutions and make changes in the fashion industry. One of eight companies selected, Nineteenth Amendment participated in the inaugural New York Fashion Tech Lab Demo Day at the Hearst Corporation on July 24, where they showcased their product and how they plan to improve the industry. The Demo Day served as a platform for the startups to gain access and exposure to nine leading retail brands – NYFTL’s Founding Members – J. Crew, Alex and Ani, ANN INC., The Estee Lauder Companies Inc., Kate Spade and Company, Li & Fung / Global Brands Group, LVMH / Marc Jacobs, Macy’s, and Ralph Lauren Corporation. You can watch Nineteenth Amendment’s Demo Day pitch here.

The program lasted a total of 12 weeks and resulted in expert advice and consideration from the pillars of the fashion community. The point is to look ahead at the up and coming companies that are combining fashion and technology – an undeniable trend of the future. By pairing top-level, established brands with the newcomers paving the way for fashion tech, NYFTL is further cementing the relationship between the two industries.

CBS ‘This Morning’ covered the Demo Day in a segment yesterday; watch below, and keep an eye on Nineteenth Amendment.

BostInno reached out to Nineteenth Amendment founder Amanda Curtis for comment; we will update the piece when we hear back.
