MixFest, the annual festival at the Hatch Shell thrown by Mix 104.1, returns on September 13, 2014, and we’ve got the lineup for your future listening enjoyment. Sure, it may seem impossible to top last year’s lineup, which was comprised of The Backstreet Boys, Gavin Degraw, Of Monsters and Men, oh and did I mention, The Backstreet Boys, but the party will go on at the Hatch Shell this September for a day of family friendly fun.

MixFest brings together fans for a day of live music out on the Esplanade, and includes a “15 Seconds of Fame” contest, in which local musicians can enter their video performances for a chance to be selected as the opener of the festival. In the meantime, here’s who you can expect at this year’s MixFest.

Christine Perri

Magic!

So there you have it: No Backstreet Boys, but instead, an American Idol winner, throwback rock crooners, the singer of that So You Think You Can Dance theme song, and the guys behind one of the most infectious songs of the summer, “Rude.”

As Boston Magazine points out, The Fray is noticeably absent from the lineup, even though they bet on the Superbowl and lost, meaning they were supposed to perform at this year’s MixFest. Not cool, The Fray, not cool. But at the same time, I feel like The Fray would kind of kill the vibe at MixFest? No?
