The epicenter of moving in Boston, September 1, is a dark place. Blame it on the resurgence of students in need of apartments in the city, but when the dreaded September 1 moving day rolls around, it feels like everyone in the city is either hauling their stuff out and relocating, or stuck helping a friend haul their stuff out and relocate, all at the same time. While this tradition has garnered its own holiday in Allston, known affectionately or repulsively as Allston Christmas, it’s not a problem pigeonholed in Boston’s heavily student populated neighborhood. If you’ve lived in Boston a few years, chances are you’ve been a part of the September 1 moving cycle at one point another.

And if not, lucky, lucky you.

This moving purge is pretty unique to our fine city, so much so, in fact, that Gilt City Boston has launched an official week-long “Moving Day” sale exclusively for the Boston area. Gilt City is aware that many of its area costumers will be uprooting and re-settling the week of September 1, and they’ve (smartly) curated some deals to coincide with the moving day woes.

Here’s some of what you can cash in on to ease your troubles surrounding 9/1:

  • Need some new eye candy? Score fifty-percent off credit for framed prints at Photos.com – choose from a $150 credit for $75, or a $250 credit for $125.
  • Moving requires a lot of cleaning and lifting. Hire Handybook professionals with an eight-week moving pass for unlimited access and get all the help you need – these pros will clean, assemble IKEA furniture and more.
  • While your pots and pans are piled up in boxes, you likely won’t be doing much cooking. Get a 30 percent off of three- or four-course meals for two from Heirloom Kitchen.
  • Update your frame game for decorating with a deal from Harvard Art & Frame: Pay $40 and get 100 toward custom framing.
  • Looking to nail down a lease in the South End? Gilt City is even offering a deal with Harrison Court that will get you a six weeks free when you sign a 15-month lease.

There’s more where that came from, too. The sale kicks off this Wednesday, August 20, at 10 a.m. and will be available for one week as Bostonians begin to pack up, move then do up their new digs. This deal is exclusive to Gilt City members in Boston; you can sign up for Gilt City here.

So while moving in Boston on a September 1 cycle is likely one of the most stressful times of the year, at least know that a few Gilt deals are waiting for you on the other side of that U-Haul journey. You did reserve a U-Haul, right?
