Fashion bloggers, lifestyle professionals and boutique owners all have one thing in common: They have personal style down to a T. But did you ever wonder what the wardrobe behind the impeccably well-dressed looks like? Each week, we’ll go inside the closets of these stylish Bostonians to find out how they put together the well-crafted appearance.

Holly Darling’s closet in Somerville can make even the most organized envious. With ample space to walk around (and play with her cat), her bright frocks, delicate flats and pineapple-shaped accessories stay easily accessible. Décor accents, including memorabilia and quotes from fashion leaders like Kate Spade make the space feel like home.

Darling is the local blogger behind the lifestyle blog Holly Dolly. Her lovely outfit posts are broken up by shots of different adventures around the city as well as DIY projects; you can buy her creations on her Etsy shop.

How would you describe your personal style?

I always find this question hard to answer for some reason. Because I think my style changes daily, depending on my mood. Sometimes I’m really clean and basic, and then the next day I feel a little bit edgy. I’ll go from a canvas tote one day, to my Chanel purse the next. But when it comes down to it, overall, I think my style is actually pretty quirky and girly. I love playful prints and bows on my shoes.

Where do you love to shop?

LOFT has started to slowly take over my closet since I started working there. Other than that I’m actually a big fan of secondhand shopping. Buffalo Exchange is my best friend. And I also love Found and Second Time Around. But I sew, too. So a good portion of my closet is handmade (including that polka dot dress I’m wearing). Those are some of my favorite and most prized pieces.

What are your must-have staple items for a great wardrobe?

I swear by a chambray shirt. It gets you through every season and goes with everything. I actually have six versions in my closet – solid, oversized, sleeveless, short sleeve, bejeweled, and polka dotted. I also keep a collection of really basic, solid ballet flats in shades of nude, brown, and black. You can throw them on quick with anything.

But really, aside from the essential basics, I’m a big supporter of the stand-out pieces. The conversation starters. Those are just as important to a wardrobe as the basics. Tulle skirts, giant polka dots, jumpsuits, pineapple purses and lemon prints are what makes my wardrobe.

What up and coming trend pieces do you currently own or have your eye on?

I am OBSESSED with the onesie trend. I’m kind of embarrassed sometimes to admit how many I now own (it’s now up to 8 rompers, 4 jumpsuits, and 4 pairs of overalls, if you were wondering).
