Yesterday, Instagram launched a standalone app that will put your existing video uploads to shame. Called Hyperlapse, it lets users record time-lapse video from their iPhone®, accelerating footage anywhere from two to twelve times the normal speed. And it didn’t take long for the fashion set to realize it’ll be a handy New York Fashion Week Tool.

As you may recall, Vine was embraced in past fashion weeks, then swiftly replaced by Instagram’s video feature (it is the industry’s preferred social media platform, after all). Of course, neither option is quite like sitting front row at the actual runway shows. While Hyperlapse won’t let you teleport to Lincoln Center, it does bend time in a manner that makes digesting next season’s styles more fun.

A key difference between the Hyperlapse experience and your usual Instagramming is a lack of filters. But don’t fret – once you craft that high-speed video, just upload it to Instagram and add a sepia tone. See? Easy.

I’ll be waiting to fiddle with this new technology until I see the clever ways showgoers play with it at NYFW next week. Hopefully I’ll find inspiration for my spring wardrobe and my dog videos.
